Home for Creatives: A Place Where History and Design merge
In the La Petxina neighbourhood of Valencia, this 100 m² home redefines the concept of renovation by blending the Valencian spirit of the 1950s with the contemporary needs of a creative couple.
The project pays homage to the past by recreating original mouldings in the living room and bedroom, as well as reinterpreting the curved walls that characterised the home's original layout. It features a studio tailored to their creative needs, demonstrating how well-thought-out design can balance work and personal life. The carefully selected colours, textures, and materials create a warm yet sophisticated space that reflects the couple’s passions and lifestyle.
Respecting the identity of the space and its original layout
The main challenge of the project was to adapt the layout of the home to modern needs, particularly by incorporating two bathrooms instead of one. One of the bathrooms remains in its original location but has been redesigned with a green touch that enhances the home's biophilic approach. An en-suite bathroom has been integrated into the master bedroom, and the kitchen has been reorganised to gain more storage space and a larger work area.
The use of stained oak wood in the kitchen furniture adds warmth and a natural feel to the space, while the improved layout enhances circulation and optimises its use. This is a clear example of how the home has been redesigned to adapt to modern times without losing its identity.
The curve as a central element
One defining feature of this home’s personality is the curve. This architectural element, already present in the original design, has been preserved and extended: it has been introduced at the entrance, where a curved wardrobe softens the transition into the home and facilitates a smooth flow between different areas. In this way, the curve not only revitalises the layout but also sets the rhythm of the design, connecting the past with the present.
Lighting: a key aspect of everyday life
Lighting is a fundamental element in the daily experience of the residents, which is why it has been designed with special attention to detail. To create a warm and inviting atmosphere, indirect lighting has been incorporated to gently envelop the spaces. Designer lamps further contribute to a serene ambiance while complementing the overall style of the home. This focus on lighting reinforces the idea of a home that invites peaceful living.
Colours that inspire calm and connection
Green is introduced into the home primarily through vegetation, textiles, and continuous finishes distributed throughout various areas of the house, forming part of a biophilic design.
A home full of history, comfort, and design
The entire design has been conceived to enhance the sense of comfort. From natural materials to the spatial layout, every detail has been carefully considered to create a home where tranquillity and creativity coexist in perfect balance. The presence of biophilic elements, touches of colour, and subtle details that evoke the past make this home a unique space full of character.
